Replaced coil on Troybilt lawn mower-cord won’t pull once cover is bolted back on-when cover off cord pulls?
HELP!
Your problem isn’t with the pull starter assembly but with the coil. The coil has to be gaped properly away from the flywheel or it will bind against the flywheel preventing you from starting the mower.
A trick I learned a long time ago from a certified mower technician is to use a business card to gap the coil. First you locate the spot on your flywheel where the magnets are placed. Then you turn that spot to where the coil bolts on. Next you place the business card between the coil and flywheel and bolt the coil down. Make sure before you bolt the coil down to connect the safety wire onto the coil if your mower uses a safety wire. After bolting the coil down turn the flywheel by hand to remove the business card. Now you can finish up by bolting the cover back on and hooking up the coil wire to the spark plug.
