Information on the rare wood of the olive tree root. Life expectancy of olives in the Mediterranean.?
Why is the root of the olive tree so cherished and sought after? What makes the wood following a lasting and useful knife handles, etc. Note Alta, Apparently there is a huge demand root of the olive wood, and some sort of restriction on harvesting is that it has something to do with it `s value. Apparently, the root only becomes valuable and useful as an element in value after an olive tree has reached it `s life expectancy and die, then and only then apparently the root can reach it` s more high density and is useful and valuable. Some of the mountain olive groves in northwestern Italy are more than 200 years of age. Gnarled, twisted and ugly, but still capable of giving a reliable and abundant crop of olives. While the old wood is cut and pruned tree remains relatively not seem to be any sign of them die. I guess something to do with the fact that only get a hard frost once in fifteen years. In December, when I am there I have to take a look at the root wood – never seen before ………..
