On a diaphragm carburetor, what makes the diaphragm move down?
I have a Walbro carburetor that does not seem to be getting gas. If I choke it repeatedly it does not even sputter. No unburnt gas spits out. No primer bulb either. I believe the model is a Walbro WT. I looked on Walbro’s website and nothing came up. I figure it is the diaphram or the reed valve under the diaphram needs adjusting on when to open.
So in short my questions are:
What makes the diaphram move down?
Would the reed valve needle cause mower to get no gas if it is always closed? I would imagine yes…
If you think the reed valve needle needs adjusting, what would be the proper height? I do not have the gauging unit that Walbro sells for this but I do have other tools that will work if I know proper height.
as the piston moves up and down it creates a variation in pressure within the crankcase called pulse,positive negative pressure which in turn moves a diaphragm within the carb allowing a set of one way reed valves to direct the flow of fuel, rarely if ever will you need to adjust the needle on a stock application, the most likely culprit is the diaphragm itself or the filter screen on the inlet side of the needle, repair kits are readily available at small engine repair shops or places that sell weedeaters and have a parts department. the new needle in the $8 dollar kit will be set to factory and the all the gaskets diaphragms and such will be brand new, Yippie!
